Conquer Kékestető

🌲 Hello Hikers! 🌲

We are taking this fall head on and invite you for an adventure in the 🦎 Salamander-filled, cloud-caressing tops of the Mátra! Come along on an advanced level hike up to the highest peak of Hungary – Kékestető 🏔️ – with breathtaking scenery, abandoned spooky buildings 🏚️ along the way, and the deep comfort of the woods 🌳.

Mátra is renowned for its natural beauty, featuring Hungary’s highest peak, Kékes (1,014 meters), which attracts hikers all year round 🚶‍♂️🎿. The mountain range is also celebrated for its dense forests, scenic landscapes 🌄, and rich biodiversity, making it a popular destination for nature lovers 🌿 and outdoor activities.

• 🚍 We will meet at Nyugati from where we take a private bus 🚌 (journey time about 1 hour) up to Mátrafüred.
• From there we start our hike 🥾 and ascend 🧗‍♂️.
• At the top, we will have a longer, well-deserved break. There is a buffet 🍲 where you can buy warm food (self-funded) to regain your strength.
• We descend via a slightly different route, including a ski slope 🎿, a peaceful shrine, and fairytale-like forest paths 🌲✨.

🗺️ Route:

💪 Level:

Definitely doable for most, yet this hike requires proper, weather-appropriate clothing, preferably boots 🥾, and your fitness & willpower. The climb is not too steep but constant. Please prepare yourself accordingly.

📏 Distance: ~18km

⏳ Hike duration: approx. 7 hours incl. breaks

⛰️ Uphill: ~700m (from ~350m above sea level to 1015m)

⛰️ Downhill: ~700m (from 1015m to ~350m)

⏱️ Travel time by bus: approx. 1hr 15min from Budapest to Mátrafüred. Same back.
