Hello Hikers!
We are announcing our premium hike, which is the first Budapest Hikers trip to Austria and our first one to reach into the 2,000-meter realm! 🏔️
Schneeberg is the easternmost bastion of the Alps, located just 40 kilometers west of the Hungarian border, towering 2,076 meters above the Vienna Basin. This one-day hike will follow the route of the Schneeberg railway (which also serves as a safety backup option for transport for those who need it) up to the very top of the mountain through all the different vegetation zones that the Alps offer! 🌲✨
We start our hike from the Hengsttal railway station on an easy path, slowly ascending along the Schneebergbahn railway. At the Baumgartner railway station, we will take a longer break where you can enjoy our complimentary snacks and drinks before we make our steep climb to the final, highest railway station (Hochschneeberg).
📅 Date: Saturday, October 17
⏰ Time: 6:15 AM – ~22:30
📍 Meeting Location: Budapest-Kelenföld Train Station, Sasadi út bus stop

🏔️ Destination: Schneeberg / Puchberg am Schneeberg, Austria
You’ll have three options on this trip:
Take a break: If you feel exhausted, you can stop at any point and purchase a train ticket back to Puchberg at the bottom of the valley. 🚂
Standard descent: After resting on the summit and visiting its attractions, you can take the same easy way along the railway back to the starting point with one of our guides.
Scenic route: You can continue from the summit with another guide on the spectacular Northern route and discover the more hidden spots and waterfalls of the Schneeberg area. 🌊
Whichever option you choose, we’ll meet at 6:00 PM at the bottom of the mountain in Puchberg, where you can choose from a number of eateries and get your dinner (self-funded). 🍽️
Length of the hike: 20 km, 1,500 meters ascent and descent
Duration of the hike: Approx. 8 hours
Difficulty: Medium level. Requires stamina and regular weekly physical exercise (standard climbing speed is ~100 meters elevation per 10 minutes). Having proper shoes/boots is a must! 🥾
