​Ready, steady, BALATON! We said goodbye to spring and now we all know that the real summer is finally here!

To enjoy the full beauty of the blossoming early summer, we invite you to Tihany, the capital of lavender, and the very best of all Balaton beaches, Sajkod! 🪻

​Tihany is best known for its thousand-year-old monastery, diverse landscape dotted with tiny lakes, forest bits, volcanic domes, and of course, the famous lavender fields and all the amazing goods made from them.

​Our 14 km hike will guide us through extinct volcanoes and hidden crater lakes, offering breathtaking views of Lake Balaton along the way.

We will stop to soak up the Lavender Festival vibes and pick our own bouquets before heading to Tihany old town for lunch.

​After the hike, we are visiting the hidden gem of the Tihany peninsula: Sajkod beach! Known for its crystal-clear water and eye-pleasing natural environment, it’s the perfect place to swim, try some watersports, and chill out.

​At the start of the summer heat, we are inviting you to our first BAIS boat trip to Lake Tisza! We will visit the western basin of the lake, roam the endless channels, and discover its unique wildlife.

​Tisza-tó, the second-largest Hungarian lake, is situated in the northeastern part of Hungary, between Eger and Debrecen, at the edge of the famous Hortobágy National Park. It was created after 1973 as a result of the construction of a hydroelectric station, and since then, it has become a popular tourist destination as well as a wildlife sanctuary.

​Our 5-hour-long canoe trip will start from the Madárpart tourist center in Poroszló and will guide us through the narrow channels and swamp labyrinths of the lake, passing by some scenic islands and lookout towers along the way.

​After the trip, we’ll have some time to rest, relax on the sandy beach, and enjoy a fine meal in the center of the village.

​We are thrilled to announce our first hike to Lillafüred, the most emblematic Hungarian mountain resort! Nested above the scenic Hámori-tó, the famous palace of Lillafüred is a perfect gateway to the gems of the Eastern Bükk mountains.

​On this adventure, we will discover the Szeleta-cave, the Szent István lookout tower, Fehérkő-peak, the majestic medieval castle of Diósgyőr, and the tallest waterfall in Hungary!

​ The Route & Landscape
​

Bükk is the second-highest mountain range in Hungary. Its limestone formations offer a landscape of pointy cliffs, small caves, and sinkholes.
​The Path: We start at the Castle of Diósgyőr, climb to the 600m Fehérkő summit, and descend to the Hámori-lake.
​Flexibility: You can choose to hike circles around the lake to find hidden viewpoints and caves, or simply head straight to the shore to enjoy the Lillafüred vibes and rent a boat!

The length of the hike is 16 km, but there are optional exit points at 7 and 10 km where you can shorten your hike and wait for us in the center of Lillafüred. Elevation: 800 meters (400 if you shorten your hike in Lillafüred center).

Exploring the Mátra and the Palóc Highlands

​The Mátra is renowned for its natural beauty and is home to Hungary’s highest peak, Kékestető. This mountain range is celebrated for its dense forests and rich biodiversity. The region is the traditional home of the Palóc people, an ethnic subgroup of Hungarians known for their distinct dialect and preserved folk traditions.

​Historically, the Palóc population spans across Northern Hungary and Southern Slovakia. In the 2011 census, while most identified primarily as Hungarian, several thousand people specifically highlighted their Palóc cultural heritage as a primary identity marker in the regional counties. They are famous for their “kontyolt” houses and intricate embroidery, adding a unique cultural layer to the wild landscape we will explore.

The Route

​On our one-day adventure, we will:

• ​Climb through the Ilona valley to reach the tallest waterfall in the country.
• ​Discover the unique, ice-carved sharp rocks of Sas-kő.
• ​Reach the summit of Kékestető (1,014 meters) for a well-deserved break.

Exploring Mór and the Vértes Hills

Mór is primarily famous for its white wines, especially the variety called ‘Ezerjó’. However, there is much more to see, as the small town is nestled just underneath the steep hills of Vértes, which is dotted with plenty of natural and medieval sights, ruins, and castles.

The area is traditionally inhabited by the German minority who were famous for their versatile craftsmanship, it’s no wonder that one of the natives received a Nobel Prize in Physics just last year!

The Route

On our one-day hike, we will:

• Climb up to the fortress of Csókakő for a stunning view of the diverse landscape.

• Continue through the forests of Vértes along scenic ridges and cliffs.

• Descend to the center of Mór to visit the fabulous Baroque Lamberg Palace.

Here we are in winter . Most of the usual hiking spots have lost their charm, so we have put together an extraordinary itinerary for you that encompasses all the best attractions of the mountains above Szentendre.

The Moonlight Gorge is one of the most mysterious places in the Pilis–Danube Bend region. It is a series of ravines, cliffs and mining pits and, according to some myths, hosts the graves of some ancient rulers. It is also one of the first hikes we did when we started BP Hikers!
And the only thing we know for sure is that some of its volcanic stones were carved out by the Romans to be used as building materials, as well as it being an ultra-scenic trekking spot!

We’ll start our trip by conquering the famous gorge, climb to the lookout tower at the very top of the hill and then descend to the Lajos Spring and the Dömörkapu Waterfall, which will probably be frozen by mid-December!

A short break is scheduled in Pilisszentlászló, one of the last traditional Slovak ethnic villages in the heartland of the mountain range , and after refreshments we’ll continue our way through the hilly winter forests eastwards down to the river Danube.
In Leányfalu plenty of restaurants will be available; you can choose any before we jump into the open-air thermal pools of the local bath.

The length of the hike: 20 km, 700 meters ascent and 800 meters descent

Duration of the hike: approx. 6 hours

Difficulty: Medium – this hike is doable for everyone who has basic fitness and some quality trekking shoes!

  Hello Hikers!

The beautiful autumn has arrived , and we’ll celebrate it in the southernmost mountain range of Hungary!

The Mecsek lies right above Pécs, the 4th most populous city in the country. Pécs is the most significant cultural center outside the capital, famous not only for its Roman, medieval, and Ottoman architecture and its 600-year-old university, but also well-known for its vibrant contemporary music and art scene — a richness that earned the city the title of European Capital of Culture in 2010.

The Mecsek, with elevations between 600 and 680 meters , is the only higher mountain range in southern Hungary and displays remarkable diversity:

• The southern slopes are covered with orchards and vineyards
• The inner parts host dark, damp beech forests dotted with charming lakes, scenic cliffs, and waterfalls.

As an isolated wilderness, the Mecsek was once home to hermits, monks, and even freedom fighters after the 1956 revolution.

Thanks to its colorful history and unique geography, it’s easy to stumble upon caves, church ruins, ancient fortifications, and rare plant species throughout the range.

We’ll start our hike at Abaliget Railway Station, from where we’ll take a gentle and pleasant ascent following the southern route of the famous Hungarian Blue Trail.

At the top (Jakab-hegy) lie the ruins of a Pauline monastery, prehistoric earth walls, and — at the southern edge of the summit — the Zsongorkő Cliff, offering stunning views over southern Hungary. After reaching the summit, the trail descends directly to Pécs through charming forests and trickling streams.

In Pécs, we’ll briefly walk by the city’s main sights, Ottoman-era mosques and breathtaking medieval buildings, before catching our train .

Don’t forget to pack your food for the adventure! We’ll provide a delicious muesli bar for some extra fuel!

The summer is gone, leaves are turning brown, autumn crocuses are blooming, this is the high season of hiking in Hungary and we invite you to a less known part of a famous trekking area of Hungary, the Eger wine region .

Eged is the name of the peak towering over the city and the vineyards of Eger, it is a popular spot among paragliders and is also boasting a scenic view over the western Bükk region, though the number of visitors has decreased since the lookout tower is out of use.

On the way to the Eged summit the hike trail passes by some spectacular mine-pits and the mysterious pre-historic hivestones (kaptárkövek) which are emblematic to the area: it is still not proven scientifically who and when carved these caves into the soft volcanic ashes but they definitely had vital importance for this ancient civilisation, either the Celts, or some of the many steppic cultures.

At the end of the hike our group descends to the oldtown of Eger and to the famous wine cellar streets, where you’ll have the opportunity to check the world-famous local wine, the bull’s blood (bikavér) and also to get yourself a decent dinner.

The length of the hike: 24 km, 700 meters ascend and descend

Duration of the hike: approx. 7 hours

Difficulty: This hike is rather easy and doable for everyone but don’t forget to bring your proper trekking shoes!

For the last great hike of the summer, we’re heading to one of Central Hungary’s most emblematic peaks — the 652-metre-tall Naszály!

Dominating the northern skyline of Budapest, this mountain is famous for its staggering rock walls, the legendary Násznép (“Wedding Crowd”) Cave, scenic beech forests, and breathtaking views over the Danube Bend.

After exploring the mountain, our trail will lead us to Verőce’s charming Danube river beach, a perfect spot with restaurants and relaxing riverside vibes.

We’ll start our adventure by conquering Naszály’s summit from Vác! Once at the top, we’ll explore caves, climb the lookout tower, and visit Látó-kő, a stunning natural viewpoint. From there, we’ll descend along Hungary’s famous Blue Trail, crossing sinkholes, dense forests, and a hanging bridge.

After passing through the Katalinpuszta tourist centre, we’ll head to Verőce, where you can dip in the Danube, enjoy a meal, play beach volleyball, or simply relax.

• Hike length: 24 km | 650 m elevation gain/loss
• Duration: ~7 hours
• Difficulty: Suitable for all, but proper trekking shoes are a must!

• 08:50 – Meeting at Nyugati Railway Station, Platform 5 (platform may change)

• 09:32 – Arrival in Vác
• 13:00 – Summit Naszály, explore caves & viewpoints
• 15:00 – Descend to Katalinpuszta
• 17:00 – Arrive in Verőce (beach time!)
• 20:54 – Arrival back in Budapest, Nyugati Station
