If you only have a couple of days in Budapest but would still like to experience the beautiful scenery and nature that Hungary has to offer then Pilisborosjenő is an excellent option as it is less than 20km from Budapest.
Pilisborosjenő is one of the most common and accessible hiking locations near to Budapest. Budapest Hikers have held several hiking events in this area and we will give you a guide on how to make the most of the area if you decide to visit.
If you decide that you would like to reach Pilisborosjenő either on your own or with a group then please follow the instructions below:
Árpád híd autóbusz-állomás (Árpád Bridge volan bus station)
You can find the departure times from this station here:
http://ujmenetrend.cdata.hu/uj_menetrend/en/index.php
Adult ticket: 310 Ft
Student ticket: 150 Ft
Stay on this bus all the way to the very last station called “Pilisborosjenő, autóbusz forduló”.
From here you have to find the nearby street called “Fő út” and follow it until the playground.
During this walk there are several main sights that you should make an effort to see. These are:
Camel Rocks:
To find the camel rocks take the main path from the playground.
From this main path you will see it is a smaller, path connected to the left of the main path. Follow this and you will find the Camel Rocks. After checking the Calmer Rock. Once you have seen Camel Rock you will need to return back to the main path to continue your walk.
Copy of the Eger Castle:
At the end of the main path you will have two options. If you choose to go left you will visit The copy of the Castle Eger.
Kevély-nyereg: picnic place
This point in your walk might be a good time to consider stopping for some food. If you would like to do this then after visiting the castle please return back to the main path and head back in the direction of the Camel Rock. Until you see the path blue with the blue line. Please then follow this path.
This will be the hardest part of the walk as it can be kind of hard to climb. Keep walking until you reach “Kevély-nyereg”, where you can rest and enjoy your picnic.
Nagy-Kevély: beautiful view
From here you can go to Nagy-Kevély which has a beatiful view. To get here follow the signs with the red line until you reach “Nagy-Kevély”.
Getting back to Budapest
After Nagy-Kevély you have two options. You can either return back to the village to take to bus or you can choose to walk back to Budapest. I suggest to take the bus.
To get the bus, please return to Pilisborosjenő’s village by following the road and signs with the red line until you see a path on your right which has a singe red square and then follow that.
